Our girl Stavroula below is doing wonderful things in New York. Not only has she scored the job of her dreams but she has also landed a job at the after party launch of Sex and the City 2. Were so excited for her here at H.C.H.Q. We miss her around here but can hardly wait to hear all of her wonderful stories when she comes back. If she EVER does.
Over the years I have seen lots of my lovely girls go on to bigger and better things and as much as I miss them all it makes me very proud that they got their start here with us. Years ago when I had The Little Shop for Horrors in Sydney Amy Havilland worked for me, she went on to NIDA and then to work on some of Australia's biggest films.
Pia who worked for me is doing amazing things and is in N.Y.C as I write, can't wait to her all her adventures.
Kate McInerney has done an internship with some famous designer, sorry Kate I know he is Alexander McQueens partner or something, were very proud of Kate and I will find out who she worked for later. Emma Kate Wood just scored a job in London as well having finished putting on all the studs on Lady Gaga's costumes. That would have had to send you Gaga Em.
We still manage to plod along here at H.C and get our orders out on time. Don't leave me Greta..................I don't know how long I can hang on to her she has her own Label Greta Kate which you can find on facebook, very different for H.C. and her designs are stunning. So all my girls are genius, I love them all and I love to see them all fly.................even if it is the H.C. coop. XXX Joy

Pia's 30th birthday Prom night.
What can I say about my stunningly beautiful Hot Couture model PIa Anderson. Pia worked for me 15 years ago at my kids costume hire shop " THe Little Shop for Horrors." We had so much fun, right next door was Deb Vidler's shop Fancy That we would dress up constantly in whatever costumes were handy. It was a wonderful time for me and the girls who worked with us. Pia had her beautiful son Bayley while working there and I am lucky enough to be his fairy Godmother. I couldn't believe how gorgeous and grown up he was a the party.
I had hit the ground running only just back from my whirlwind trip to Vegas but it never even crossed my mind to not go to Pia's party. Not only would I see Bay and Pia but I would get to party with my older kids Gypsy and Eddy.........one of my fave things apart form Hot Couture is to hang out and party with my kids. Ginger was in Perth and sadly missed all the merriment. There was plenty to be had we laughed all the way. Gypsy and her friends decided to go all 70's 80's I couldn't possibly put myself in the hideous garb of that era I thought they were all great sports to do so. Especially Gypsy who completed her prom outfit with fake braces on her teeth, even her camera was 70's and matched her dress. The limo ride was hilarious and needless to say we were all tanked on arrival. Stepping into the Balmain Town Hall was like going into a time machine. Pia and her family had made the hall so perfect. On the stage was a swing band all of Pia's friends were dressed up mostly in 50's and looking stunning. Burlesque Queens Lisa Toyer and Kitty Van Horne looked gorgeous in their stunning gowns. Lisa made the cake which as you can see in the pics is a perfect replica of Pia in her gown. The big band played, Stu from Zombie Ghost Train sang as did Pia.
Pia was joined by the lovely Sarah from The Velvet Set and Kitty Van Horne sang one of my fave songs Jackson. It really was a night to remember.
Bayley and all his friends crumped, Gypsy and all her gang performed Thiller although they seemed to have forgotten a lot of it since Halloween. The food was all 50's themed pineapples and cupcakes something that didn't go un-noticed by me. Rockabilly dancers Jimmy and Margie were there along with Mark, Sue, Robyn and Georgio. All my fave people from the 50's fair and Wintersun. I danced all night with my son Eddy until I lost him to a much younger and cuter Persia.
Pias partner Angus was happily looking after everything and making sure it all went perfectly, the night ended with stacks on started by Gypsy of course. Pia forgot to give out the Prom Queen and King but gave it out in the last hour with A tearful Gypsy and Christian still wearing his afro accepting and giving a very long speech while Colin and I yelled out "rigged rigged". What a wonderful night so happy I made the effort to go.
We all wish Pia a wonderful trip to New York City where she is doing a cameo appearance in Mad Men and going to the screening of the Yopait ad. Good luck Pia come back and watch out for Stavroula she will get you in trouble for sure. XXX Joy

VIVA LAS VEGAS..................what can I say about the best time I ever had except it was the best time I ever had. The Orleans was rockin, every second of the day and night there was something to do.
I spent the first day hanging out with my girl Stavroula and her very very gorgeous boyfriend Aaron. We hit Caesers Palace and The Bellagio had a look around the Strip and then headed over to where all the Rockabilly action was. So many fabulous people I couldn't quite get my head around it all. My camera was on all of the time incase I missed some amazing creature. My best friend in the whole world Gayle flew in from London with her daughter Ruby ( Emerald Fontaine) one of London's best Burlesque dancers. I couldn't wait to show them the action at The Orleans and they weren't disappointed. The highlights for me were Wanda Jackson goes without saying, Dita Von Teese although she wasn't part of Viva. Charles Phoenix slide show, the fashion show..............our very own Miss Hussy had a big part in the parade and how she pulled it all together is beyond me she is truly fabulous as were all her garments. Chop Shop boys were great the jive dancing comp.THe Tiki pool party was great fun except for the wind. Chuck Berry was a bit different than the last time I saw him but it was still cool being in the presence of a legend. Ran into Miss Paula Jane and Hayley where we shared popcorn, it's funny how exciting it is to see other Australians you know. They were having the best time as well but how could you not.
Really great to see all the other Aussie's. I hung out with Stav, Aaron, Gayle and Ruby most of the time and we gave out loads of Hot Couture playing cards and postcards. It was a great trip for networking and talking to all the other wonderful designers. I had a great chat with the owner of Stop Staring who told me they tried to kick her out of Viva because she was reproduction 50's attire. Look at her now.
She was quite wonderful and so interesting and interested in Hot Couture and wished me well.
The atmosphere was so lovely everyone there for the same thing, music, dancing and the fab clothes to buy. I finally ran into Sarah and Pete from Deadbeat magazine on my last night at a Japanese restaurant they were at the next table. We made arrangements to meet a the Bellagio the next morning for breakfast and that was a highlight for me as well.
I loved the hotel and didn't mind the cab trips back and forth at all, it was nice being on the Strip. The Flamingo where Stav and Aaron stayed was really nice too. I ran into rockabilly dancers Jimmy and Margie from Sydney and Elise on the last day. Jade from LA on the last day so many people I knew. Would I recommend it and will I go again.........Absolutely loved it all except LAX avoid that at all costs. Can't wait for next year to do it all again. XXX Joy
